A bedroom is a room which is used usually for sleeping, rest or  sexual activities.  As funny as it sounds, a bedroom sometimes may not contain a bed.

In North America and Europe it is very common for a house to have at least two bedrooms, one for the house holders, husband and wife, and the second bedroom or other rooms are for  children or guests.

In buildings that contain multiple housing units, such as apartments, there are many bedrooms.  While each unit has at least one bedroom, (a bedroom is usually a room that is smaller in size than for example the living room, therefore it is defined as a bedroom, however when there are multiple rooms in an apartment one can make his own choice where the bedroom will be.  

In 3rd World countries houses (or huts) can consist of one room only, which is used for cooking, eating and sleeping and the entire family that is usually a lot of people sleep together in this room.  

 A studio apartment is also a western worlds definition of this one roomed hut, which is one big room that is used as a kitchen, bedroom and sitting room, however the most people to live in a studio apartment are 2 and the other difference apart from furniture etc are separate bathroom and toilet.

 Furniture  and other items in the bedroom are what defines this room as a bedroom, each one with its individual style. A regular bedroom can contain one bed, single,double or queen sized. One or more dressers and also a nightstand. There will probably be a closet (small or big, depending on the size of the room) and there could also be also a carpet.  Nowadays, built-in closets are very popular, more in America than Europe.
